We all find ourselves living with the harsh reality that life is hard and life hurts. We continually demand that life be fair, yet we’re well aware that it’s not. Life can leave you at a loss for words. It has a way of suddenly casting you into the darkness of doubt. In these desperate moments, you find your soul being drained dry . . . you’re empty . . . and faith just doesn’t seem to matter anymore. Faith loses out when you realize that God could have done something . . . and He did nothing. Your life is further emptied when you realize that even if you live the “Christian” life, things don’t always turn out the way you’d like them to . . . and that’s not the way you hoped faith worked. You don’t want God to comfort you in your troubles . . . you want Him to take them from you. As God continually frustrates our faith with His constant inconsistency and ridiculously draining unpredictability, we resolve in the truth that He is the only one who understands our hurting hearts, empty lives, and searching souls. We find the ongoing trials of life continually draining us and . . . we’re thirsty. Yet, through our endless efforts to quench our undying thirst, nothing satisfies. Our souls seem to be insatiable, and we know we desperately need something to fill us, completely . . . but it’s not what we think. You’ve been waiting for God to show up, yet He’s actually been waiting for you. He’s ready to meet with you . . . one on one . . . at the well.

The author makes excellent use of references from scripture and literature throughout this book to make her points. In her first chapter, "Thirsty", Cherie Hill weaves together a variety of quotes which ultimately assure the reader that not only is it reasonable that people with faith feel empty at times, it is actually an important step in our spiritual journey. The second chapter, "At the Well", focuses in depth and quotes much of, the story of Jesus at the well, expanding on how it relates to our own search for a sense of spiritual well being.

The second half of the book contains the more difficult aspects of transforming our feelings of emptiness. In Poured Out, Cherie Hill acknowledges that meeting Jesus at the well can be both difficult and painful. She cautions that it is easier and more common for people to fill their lives with distractions and man made happiness than to allow God to reshape their lives. The final chapter, is both a restatement of the need for God's help and a reminder that God is the only long lasting solution.

The third and fourth chapters initially felt repetitive, but the familiarity of the author's message softened the impact of the recognition that we still need to do the hard work of allowing God to "dig out" the dirt that has accumulated in our souls. Christians looking for an easy, happy faith will not find it in empty. If you welcome the challenge of finding a deeper faith or wonder why your faith is not working to keep away the emptiness - this book is a good place to start.

empty Living Full of Faith When Life Drains You Dry Cherie Hill 9781481155519 Books Reviews

This book is just full of great news fir those it is new to and great reminders for those who know, but may have forgotten. The words and scripture quotes may not be easy to come to terms with, but none the less, information we need to acknowledge and come to grips with. Please read this if you are feeling "empty" and need a reminder on how to trust Got lead you on your journey.
This is a great resource for someone going through great trials in their life. Full of Scripture references that are helpful. God doesn't want us to waste the hard things we go through. He wants to use them for His glory, and our greater good.
I have read a few books by Cherie Hill and have really enjoyed them; but I have to admit that I struggled to get through this one. It has some very good points but I felt it to be very repetitive which caused me to start losing interest half way through. Don't let this review keep you from reading other books by this author. She is a very inspirational writer and I would highly recommend reading some of her other books.
I REALLY ENJOYED READING THIS BOOK. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT WITHOUT RESERVATION. IT SHOWS YOU HOW TO DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN YOUR FAITH AS YOU NAVIGATE THE STRUGGLES OF LIFE. WHEN LIFE EMPTIES YOU TO THE SOUL, IT IS YOUR FAITH THAT WILL PULL YOU OUT AND RESTORE YOUR SOUL. DON'T LOSE HOPE AS YOU NAVIGATE THE VISITUDES OF LIFE. HOLD ON TO YOUR FAITH. THIS TOO SHALL PAST...
This is a rare book. The content makes you want to keep reading. But it is so drawn out that you have to take a break. To much repetition. Saying the same thing over and over in a different way. The length could have been cut in half without sacrificing any content. But that would have made it less tedious and more readable. And gotten a higher rating.
Another exhilarating and yet very humbling walk through our often difficult journey of faith. Cherie Hill has, once again, outlined the road to dynamic trust and faith in simple
, powerful and straightforward terms. This is a spiritual GPS for every believer who refuses to be satisfied with being mediocre and paralyzed by fear.
This book starts you off with - The Woman at the well in John 47-43. The book is broken down in four chapters that will change your life like never before - Thirst, At The Well, Pour Our, and Full Of Faith.

As you read this book, it will reach way deep down into the core of your being to tap into the spring of "Living Water" within your spirit. Whatever religion or christian denomination you belong to it doesn't matter at this point, only Jesus and your relationship with Him the "Living Water"- Without Him you're empty. You're just like the woman at The Well, He need to dig deep into your spirit because that's where the dirt is keeping the wellspring of Living Water from coming forth. This is your divine appointment with Jesus, He came to draw water, but what He's doing, at this point drawing your near soul to Himself. Without God's Word, you would not exit. Your life is pointless, without God's purpose in your life you're nothing. It's His Word that is the spiritual nourishment you must have to live out your purpose and to be filled to the fill...so that you never thirst again. You would discover the Living Water within you so you wouldn't have to Thirst know more. Your emptiness is not without purpose, it's an opportunity to unleash God's power. What you're thirst is for isn't what you think you're thirst is for "water", you're thirst is for Truth. You're being emptied, so that you'll live a full Life of Faith. (This paragraph is an paraphrase from the book Empty).
