This book follows the work of God's grace across Eastern Europe from the fall of Communism to the present day.
After nearly half a century of Soviet tyranny, the Iron Curtain fell apart. Communism had failed, and the people betrayed by it struggled to find some truth to hold onto. Into this era of uncertainty, God sent some unlikely missionaries. Carrying guitars and Bible, they told the people of a God who loved them and longed for relationship with them.
As a result an incredible story began to unfold. IT IS A STORY OF HOPE IN THE MIDST OF HARDSHIP, A STORY OF MERCY IN THE DARKEST HOUR, BUT MOST OF ALL, IT IS A STORY OF GRACE.

This book should be required reading for all missions organizations especially those that suggest years of preparation before starting a missionary endeavor. The concept of "let's see what God does" led to an amazing work of the Lord. This idea is pretty standard throughout Calvary Chapel, it leaves room for the Holy Spirit which leads to some remarkable results. The things God has done through the men and women mentioned in this book has been life-changing for many, many people. I am sure most of the men and women in this book think of themselves as normal, average people. But surrendering their lives to God has also transformed them into truly amazing people. Having met most of them I have been impressed by their talents, gifts and grace.
Pastor Phil and Trudy, thank you for writing this book. I enjoyed it from cover to cover. The story is told very well but I suspect one of the hardest parts of writing this book was deciding what to leave out. There are so many wonderful stories of the things God is doing, and has done in Eastern Europe they wouldn't all fit in one book. So start writing the next book, I can't wait to read more...

A Story of Grace Beyond the Iron Curtain eBook Phil Metzger Trudy Chun Reviews
Interested in missions, church planting, the birth of a new thing being done by God in far off lands using unqualified but willing hands? This book is for you! You will be encouraged as you read about how God established His Kingdom in Eastern Europe as willing followers did the best with what they had and stood amazed by what God did with their offering. This book had me crying, laughing and celebrating as I was drawn into the stories of God's grace overcoming difficulties, saving many and establishing Churches! #astoryofgrace
As a missionary in Peru, I found this book a great read on missions. But more importantly I found this book a beautiful picture of grace. Grace that changes everything. If your a missionary I recommend this book for the advice and counsel I found in it. If your not living overseas but in need of God's grace as we all need. I recommend this book. Also, for those wanting to understand history of missions and the irony curtain this bok is. Good resource. Highly recommend it.
I found the stories of individuals very encouraging even in the times of difficulties. There is a hope born from seeing God break thru a people and culture with a past orthodox and atheistic history to bring His kingdom into their daily lives. I appreciated the mission being Jesus saves and not America saves.
I loved reading the stories of how God uses ordinary people to do amazing things. In each case they went with the expectation just to see what God would do. In each story of Grace it was so clearly shown that God used flawed men and women to display His flawless work of transforming lives. It is not just a story of Grace but a story of Hope for each one of us who long to be ministers of reconciliation for Him.

My daughter spent 5 years as a missionary in Hungary in the 1990's and married a Hungarian I who was translating for the churches in 2000. Many of the people in this book are very familiar to me and I am delighted their stories are being told. The book is very well written and inspirational to those who know and love God.
Beside the fact that I know most of these people personally, and have visited many of the places and cities over the past years, I enjoyed learning the details and how the hand of God was in it all. Thank you for writing this book and for recording and recalling what God has done. I recommend that all ministers and missionaries read it. I recommend it, also, to every saint, to learn of the miraculous and sacrificial work it is to plant a Church. The work of God is absolutely glorious!
As both a Pastor and a Missionary I was super blessed by this book. The stories of what God has done and is doing in Eastern Europe are truly inspirational. The way they are told with personal examples, about real people doing the work of church planting in difficult places were a great help personally. I think this book will inspire a new generation of missionaries, as well as bless the many who have invested by going and sending in Eastern Europe. I think people will finish and ask the question, "I wonder what else God wants to do, and I wonder if He could use me like the people in the book?" Don't miss being encouraged by the story of Grace, played out through unsuspecting lives in unsuspecting places!
